From my brand new story, Slight of Hand, which follows a magician and his assistant:
“This is my grandson, Xavier. He’s going to be taking over my
cape.”
Morgan studied the older gentleman and felt like an awful trick had been played on her. “I thought that I was going to be your assistant, sir.”
Mr. 'I look this good when I get out of bed' let go of her hand. “My grandfather wants to
retire. I’ve been studying his tricks for the past few years so that I would be
ready to hit the road when he was ready to hang it up.”
