I'm really excited to be sharing a snippet from Kelly Dawson's new release, Rachel's Journey. It's an absolute pleasure to host you today. My brother has a mild form of Tourette's his whole life and he has had his own struggles. You are very brave sharing Rachel with the world.
Thank you for coming over.
Excerpt: The first time James spanks Rachel
With one hand pressed firmly between her shoulder blades holding her down, he used the other hand to smack her butt, hard.
“Ow!” Rachel shrieked. Even through her jeans the smack had hurt! James smacked her twice more, even harder. “Ow! Get off me you brute!” Rachel shrieked again. She struggled to get free and kicked out at his shins, but he held her down easily, ignored her yells, and continued to spank her butt ferociously, his large work-roughened hand covering most of her bottom with each smack and the force of the blows jarring her whole body.
After another seven or eight whacks James let her up, but he stood in front of her, blocking her escape with his body. As Rachel stood up, she glared at James, daggers shooting from her eyes.
James knew that if looks could kill, he’d be shrivelling up and disappearing through the ground right about now. But that didn’t stop him from continuing the lecture he’d started earlier. He found his best scolding voice. “You are a brat. Why don’t you care about your personal safety? Or, come to think of it, the personal safety of anyone else who might be unlucky enough to be on the road at the same time as you?”
Rachel shrugged again. “I suck, ok? I don’t care about my safety because I don’t care about me! I thought you would have figured that out by now!”
James grabbed her by the shoulders and gave her a gentle shake, looking intently into her eyes. “No you do not suck. Why do you keep talking like that?”

Author Bio: Kelly Dawson loves anything to do with horses, rodeos and cowboys, and loves to get lost in a good book - preferably a rural romance where a strong woman falls in love with a ruggedly-handsome, tough but gentle cowboy, and these are the types of characters who feature in the stories she writes. Only in Kelly’s books, the cowboys are even better because they spank!
She lives literally at the bottom of the world in the South Island of New Zealand, with her husband, four kids, a dog and a cat.
Author’s Note about Rachel’s Journey: Rachel’s Journey is very close to my heart. Like Rachel, I too, have Tourette’s Syndrome. I have tried to portray what it is like to live with this neurological disorder, and while Tourette’s affects everyone differently so each person’s experience is unique, it is my personal experience, how Tourette’s affects me, that is told in Rachel’s Journey. In some ways, Rachel’s Journey is my biography, only fictionalized. Rachel’s circumstances are nothing like my own, but in all the ways that matter, Rachel is me.
Blurb: Rachel was such a loser. Growing up with Tourette's Syndrome has taught her that. Who could possibly want someone who contorted their faces in bizarre twitches or snorted at random? Not even Mike, the man who had promised he loved her, had been able to put up with it. She broke up with him when she caught him cheating on her during their great overseas experience, promptly flying back home to hide and lick her wounds.
James was the manager for the 850 acre farm she and her brother Simon had inherited. She liked James. He'd always treated her nicely, like an honorary little sister, and she'd had a crush on him forever. Not that she could ever tell him. She wasn't going to set herself up for rejection ever again.
But when it seems that someone is out to harm her, can she count on James to come to her rescue?
Set in rural New Zealand, this epic romance will thrill you and keep you captivated, enchant you with charming detail and inspire you, as learning to overcome adversity ultimately is Rachel's Journey.
